Arthur and Lia are walking, Mareg is behind Arthur half offcamera. Lia has her want out and its glowing.

Arthur "Why are we going through these tunnels?"

Lia "Because one of the villagers said it might lead to the lich queen."

Arthur "Ok"

Panel 1B

A click sound "click" comes from the ground

Arthur "Shouldn't Ethan be up front looking for traps?"

Lia "Why do you bring that up?"

Arthur "Well I just heard something and got worried it might be a tra..."

Panel 2A

The ground has opened beneath the party and they've begun to fall inside, everyone except Darmeth who isn't there right now, another comic will have his story.

Arthur "aaapp .."

"AAAaaah" from everyone as they fall.

Panel 2B

Darmeth is walking around, holding a torch. "See guys, I totally tricked you, you never even saw me as you walked past me. I TOLD you gnome invisibility rocks! Guys?"

In my tabletop games, we often have at least one of the six people not show up. When that happens, we just have someone play the other person's character. The artificer, played by my friend Matt Matt, and the warden, played by my friend Josh, both often play each others character and sort of make fun of the other character.

This comic was done in that spirit, who would let Ethan play Arthur's character? Hard to guess, on one hand, Ethan is going to powerplay, on the other hand, Ethan might have your character commit seppuku. Hmm...

Mareg has the old man ghoul with one hand and is readying his sword to kill him.

from offscreen "Stop!"

Panel 1B

Lia is standing there, Mareg has turned like "huh?"

Lia "We can't kill any of them, they're still people inside, we should try and communicate to the goodness thats inside!"

Mareg "Arthur! Diplomacy check, Hurry!"

Panel 2A

Albert, Mike, and Melissa lean over the gaming table as Albert rolls. *clatter* A zoom window, shows the d20 clearly on a 1.

Panel 2B

Arthur and Mareg is holding the door closed while zombie arms reach inside.

Mareg "What did you say, they're even more mad now!"

Arthur "I dunno, I just said we'd kill the lich queen and free them of their curse, if it takes as long as our last adventure, no more than a year or two."

The camera is panned left, as Arthur and Mareg look at zombies coming out of the mist.

Arthur "What? The lich queen! Ethan, do something!"

Ethan has his dagger up, "I'll do something allright, these villagers don't know who they're messing with"

Arthur "Quick old man, where is the lich queen's lair?"

Panel 1B

Camera pans right, old man is taking his dentures out and putting in fanged dentures, his face is pale, his eyes yellow, etc. , Arthur has big eyes, Ethan's still facing away and his dagger is glowing.

Arthur small text "Uh old man...?"

Old Man "I'll eat your soul!"

Panel 2A

The old man has leaped on Ethan's back and is biting his arm.

Ethan "Get off me old man"

Old Man "mmmmph..Soul..mmmmm"

Panel 2B

Ethan runs by wacking at the old man as Mareg holds a zombie at bay with his shield, Mareg has turned to look as Ethan goes by.

Mareg "Huh, was that standard move or a run?"

Ethan "That was my "Get the hell off me old man" move, stop yammering and pull this geriatric zombie off me!"

Skill Challenge: Find the lich queen's lair - 11/2/2009

A skill challenge is an interesting mechanic to push the players to do more than just combat, or more than the DM stringing the players along between combat. When the group fails a skill challenge, you can't have it end the adventure, but rather, something bad happens. The best things are "fun" things that happen when you fail... or at least I think so anyways. :)
