However in most storage media they place a note saying "1GB = 1000MB" or such. It makes the numbers sound bigger.... Really they should just put 1GiB which is the SI unit (and is infact base 10)

I've used both IE7 and Firefox. Both are improvments over IE6, however I've found IE7 to be a bit sluggish. I also find its menu based interface annoying....
I recommend Firefox with the IE View light extension: Whenever you find a page that doesn't work in FF (Rare) Just right click and it will auto-open the page in IE.
