I'm not sure I can jump across roofs....I nearly killed me last time.....I vote we take the truck. It we turn the sirens it should draw the dead away from the rest of you...

    Re: Inconvenient Death

    Abe

Without listening for any further discussion I find the biggest box I can carry under 1 arm and run down the shelves pulling anything off that might be remotely edible including a small pile of assorted T-shirts and a box of bic lighters into the box.  I grab 2 half liters of diet rootbeer and stuff them in my shirt grab my broom and go back to the door.

"Now, now." I plead, "Be, Be, before I lose my nerve."  Mr. Broom is clutched tightly in my right fist.

) Right now I'm having amnesia and deja vu at the same time. I think I've forgotten this before.

    Re: Inconvenient Death

"No!" Mary cries out, clinging to Alex tightly.  "Please don't go!  You'll DIE!  Come with us.  We can make it."

"Yeah, come on guys", the little girl's father argues.  "The thing with the truck is a fool's errand.  We can't stop you, but we'd rather have you come with us than needlessly die.  This will work.  I know it."

A stillness hangs in the air for a moment that no one dares to break.  Everyone notices just how cold it's become within the store now that the power has died, their breath hanging icily in the air.  Then, as if on cue, the moaning outside picksup and something begins rattling within the walls of the convenience store.

The moaning outside I'm kind of inured to but the noise inside the walls pushes my panic button.

"N, N, N, no time! Truck now!" I plead desperately anxious to get out of this trap.

    Re: Inconvenient Death

Hal looks over the group and sighs. "I'm sorry, we need to try the truck. Moving from rooftop to rooftop is risky at best, suicidal at worst. With a heavy enough truck, we don't need to worry about falling or how we're going to get to the high school. I understand your need to move, but give us a chance first. If we can't fix it, we'll do the rooftops. If I can fix it, it'll be far easier."

He stops, trying to let the logic seep in.

"I do agree with one part, though. Everyone else needs to get to the roof. If I can get the truck going I'll come back here and pick up everyone I can."

As the banging increases, Hal's grip tightens on his mop. "Go, now! Alex, Abe, on me." He goes to the door and checks the zombie situation there.

I station myself just behind Hal's right shoulderand as we race across the street I scan the area to the front, right and rear.  I don't want to be out here but staying in that store doing nothing was worse.

"You do what you need to do," the girls father says as he pulls a tear Mary away from Alex, "but don't bother coming back, because we won't be here.  Good luck and God speed."

As the group begins moving toward the back door where the ladder awaits, Mary looks pleadingly at Alex.  "Please, no..." she mouths wordlessly to Alex, her hand making a reluctant reaching gesture.

Outside, Hal can see several zombies, all violently shaking and howling mindlessly for no apparent reason.

I'm sorry. Jumping over those rooves nearly killed me. I'll be fine, and meet you there. We'll put the lights on and try and draw them off. I love you. *Rushes off to help fix the truck*

Hal opens the door and bursts from the store, his mop held close to his body. He makes a beeline for the station, keeping his body low. If a zombie gets in his way, he knocks it aside with his shoulder or mop, depending on the side.

    Re: Inconvenient Death

Several men look back and forth between the two groups and then step away from the crowd to join Alex, Hal and Abe.  Having chosen their side, they follow Hal out into the morning light.  The zombies leap into action, their moans now a keening wail.  Several zombies go down, but there are just too many of them and the group finds itself cut off from their goal, surrounded by dirty, grasping hands and gnashing teeth.  The violence is brutal and confusing, but soon Alex, Hal and Abe find openings in the wall of undead flesh.  The other five men are not so lucky as their former neighbors begin to bear down upon them.

I am an idiot, just feet from the door I turn and wade back into the fray, using my broom to push their feet out from under the zombies or hook their feet and yank their feet out from underneath them as long as I see any of the men still on their feet fighting.

    Re: Inconvenient Death

I turn back to help the men that followed up, Wailing away with a 2-by-four I found in the ally while running I aim for the heads and shoulders so I don't have to bend as much, but occasionally go for an exposed knee-cap, swinging from the elbows.

Hal looks back to see where hs comrades are. He curses as he sees Abe, turns and runs back. He takes furious swipes at the zombies trying to free the men.

    Re: Inconvenient Death

OOCRescuing these guys is going to be Extremely Hard™, requiring 6 Odds.  Between the three of you, you've got 7 Dice (3 Base, Hal is "Strong", plus three for your weapons) and one Auto Odd (I'm giving Hal his "Baseball" skill).  This is obviously dangerous, and failure will result in injuries.  If you think you need it, you can "burn" one of your Traits for an extra die by describing how it becomes useful in the story.  (Hal already burned "Strong" so it is unavailable now.)  You can also burn your Flaw, if you can come up with a way for it to be useful.  Lastly, you can change your mind and make a run for safety.

If I don't hear from anybody by tomorrow night, I'll assume that you're all in at the current 7 Dice, 1 Auto Odd.
