Re: Nova's Keep on the Shadowfell 4e Game (Part 1)

OOC: I made a Human Wizard character named Aabrax to join the group.

    Aabrax:

While taking a bit of a rest by the side of the road I spot a rather rowdy group coming up towards me. This gang looks like a hardened bunch and might proove to be useful. "Hail!"

    Bragon:

"Aren't you a bit old to be travelling alone?"

    Aabrax:

"I've got quite a few tricks up my sleeve young man, but by the looks of it so do you. Are you headed to Winterhaven by chance?"

    Bragon:

"If you're looking for an escort then I'll be looking for some cash."

    Aabrax:

Performs Cantrip "Prestigitation" to create several small blue sparks coming from his fingertips. "I was thinking we might help each other here. Don't let my age fool you. I can hold my own in a fight."

    Bragon:

"Well, it seems you're probably not entirely useless after all but if I'm not getting paid then don't expect me to go out of my way to protect you."

    Aabrax:

"Thanks for the overwhelming vote of confidence. When the time comes, I'm sure you'll appreciate my assistance. Well then, let's be off."

Bragon and Aabrax continue down the road together towards Winterhaven with Star and Shaggy.

    Shaggy

I watches the play between the rogue and the wizard and chuckles as I spins the pick behind my back into the air and catches it with my left hand.  "Youngsters and their pretty tricks, I  thinks, its steel that counts and they had better learn that."  I grins, "But the sparkles were pretty."

    Star

I involuntarily wince, I am surrounded by children with tricks.  'Heavy Sigh' Well nobody told me missionary work would be easy.  In fact when I was ordained and the spirit of Bahamut was instilled in me by his grace I was told it would be a life time of trial, tribulations and temptation.  I sing a Bahamut hymn which is a blessing for travelers, I'm not bestowing a blessing now, I just need to hear a happy tune because its going to be a long, long journey.

Alright, you near the end end of the first day of your three day journey you see a campsite by the side of the road. Its a bit large for your group as it is obviously normally used by caravans but it has a firepit and is off the road, and has precut word left by the last travller as it the tradition of the road. You could camp here or keep looking.

I'll need a new marching order for you guys, I'll upload new minis this afternoon.

Re: Nova's Keep on the Shadowfell 4e Game (Part 1)

Ooc: As for a marching order putting us in a diamond formation is probably best with Shaggy (fighter) out front, Star (cleric) and Bragon (rogue) on the sides, and Aabrax (wizard) in the back. Unless Grumpy has any objections.

    Bragon:
"Time to camp for the night?"

    Aabrax:
"I agree, but we should sleep in shifts to keep an eye out. What do you think Star?"

Re: Nova's Keep on the Shadowfell 4e Game (Part 1)

OOCNo objections but you might consider Star up front with his keener eyes and higher Cha in case we meet a group that needs to be identified as friend or foe and Shaggy in back where he can watch for things that might want to come up from the rear and eat us. Shaggy can take the mid watch and Star the 3rd watch. Let the old Wizard sleep, we might want him fresh and full of it if things get exciting.
Star immediately sets out a fire and while its starting lays out his bedroll and equipment to the east side of the party's site.  Shaggy drops his bag and goes off into the woods to forage for a pot of water, fresh meat and fruit.

OOCThis is where it gets interesting, do I make a survival throw for Shaggy, do you make the throw or do we need to in this edition?  It's going to be at least another week according to book store before I get my books

Re: Nova's Keep on the Shadowfell 4e Game (Part 1)

Ooc: Foraging for food is a Nature Skill check. (pg. 186 PHB) Roll 1d20 + whatever your nature skill is. If you get a 14 or lower, then you fail. 15-24 you find enough food and water for 24 hours for 1 person. 25+ then you find enough for everybody for 24 hours. DM can adjust the requirements +5 or -5 depending on if you're in a cultivated or barren environment though.

Re: Nova's Keep on the Shadowfell 4e Game (Part 1)

OOCNature skill is +2 but I don't have access to the PHB till my book store gets it. Tried the Torrent down load and my system won't accept it. If you will tell me how to roll the dice I'll give it a try.  Playing the cleric is going to be fun too, my only references on hand are 2, 3.0 and 3.5 books.  I hope somebody gets in the game and takes it off my hands.  Afraid you guys/galswill have to baby sit me for awhile.

Re: Nova's Keep on the Shadowfell 4e Game (Part 1)

OOC: Old Grump, check your private forum messages. :) Those 3.0 and 3.5 books are pretty much useless as you'll need to know all your powers and what they do etc to play effectively.

OOCOk, I've uploaded your marching order pictures to http://www.flickr.com/photos/canageek/sets/72157605769778788/
Sorry about the bad quallity I turned the resolution down a bit far, but you can tell who everyone is. 7 megapixles was killing my flickr upload limit, and I turned it down a bit far.

Re: Nova's Keep on the Shadowfell 4e Game (Part 1)

Ok, resting is a bit different in 4e. Instead of needing 8 hours of rest (which most people I know don't get) they've gone with 6 hours, 4 for elf types (elves are also fully aware when resting so they can still keep watch), anyway this means the most effince resting arrangement is now two shifts of 6 hours each, however you can do the tradtional 3 four hour shifts if you want. Or any other mix, just let me know your watch shedual.

OOCAlso I need feedback on the map options. Ie, Minis, Dice or Mixed. I also have flat paper tokens.

    14 +2 = 16 nature skill Shaggy foraging

OOCI'm new to this play by post so whatever you guys think is best for the illustrations is fine by me, I'll adjust. Found a 4e intro page that will help so I think I can muddle through, just holler when I screw up.
Shaggy will share whatever he gets foraging no matter how little, anything to make the rations last longer and put some fresh food in our mouth's
