OOCWhat time is it? If it's evening or night, we should sleep first, otherwise we go shopping.

Re: A Long way to Lonely Shores

It's early afternoon Say around 2pm.

I'll give you a couple of days to RP around the village if you want to then we'll head out into the swamp.

You will need to decide how to head out there but that will develop through the RP (hopefully)

While they are out shopping, Jack enquires of Vaashin: "On they way here, did you ever get around to identifying all those magic items that we got?"

Re: A Long way to Lonely Shores

OOCGive me a charisma check and I'll tell you what you got for the weapons as the local inn keeper also sells supplies.
There aren't any magic users here but can't someone cast identify?

If you can, you'll be able to find a few pearls to use.

OOCVaashin can identify. His post also starts with "yes", so that means that he identified them with the spells that he prepared daily while we were travelling. There were four days, so I am certain he had enough spells to do so, while still keeping some ready for emergencies.

Re: A Long way to Lonely Shores

Ok, No problem this is what was found.

a masterwork longsword (315gp), 2 pearls worth ??? (Give me an appraisal roll for that :D ),
Plus you've found a medium sized suit of studded leather armor(25gp)  2 light shields(3gp each), 2 short swords(10gp each), 2 javelins(1gp each) which you can take and sell if you want to.

    OOC
What you found wasa Headband of the Stout Heart +1 to all will saves; a Translator's ring, adds + 2 languages including literacy of the language  Lifting Belt, +1 enhancement bonus to carrying weight str does change str bonus/actual str score  Pearl of Power 0 lvl - allows owner (any divine/arcane caster) to recall 1 0 lvl spell /day

Which of the mundane items did you take?
Then give me a Charisma check to determine what you get for it. DC 15, anything above, I'll give you more gold than 50%, failure by 5 or more means you get less than 50%.

Re: A Long way to Lonely Shores

OOCOk. I've updated my character sheet to show the Translator's ring and Lifting Belt.

The 2 languages that I get, do they depend on the ring, or is it the first two languages that I try to translate, or what? I cannot find a definitive description of how this item works anywhere, but I have found people using either of the previous two rules.

Re: A Long way to Lonely Shores

You determine that the pearls are worth around 100 gp each.

The translator ring is defined as :

Translator’s Ring: This ring grants the wearer
the ability to understand two specific languages in
addition to those she already knows. If the character
wearing the ring is literate, she also gains literacy in
the new languages as long as she wears the ring.
For the purpose of this adventure, the ring offers
access to two languages that none of the PCs speak,
but that might prove useful in future adventures.
Appropriate choices include Abyssal, Aquan, Auran,
Draconic, Dwarven, Giant, Goblin, Ignan, Infernal,
    Orc, and Terran.
Faint divination; CL 1st; Forge Ring, comprehend
    languages; Price: 400 gp.

Re: A Long way to Lonely Shores

OOCSo I get to choose two languages? If so, Jack will ask the professor more about the ruins that we are going to investigate, to find out what language/s could be useful, but only after we are back from the afternoon shopping.

Re: A Long way to Lonely Shores

You don't really get the opportunity to chose the languages but what the heck, chose 2 and you have them.

Re: A Long way to Lonely Shores

OOCOk, so I misunderstood, so you get to choose the languages then, I suppose.

Re: A Long way to Lonely Shores

OOCOk you get Draconic and Gaint.
    (Both helpful with this adventure.)

OOCOK, let's get a move on (though I know that's my fault)

Professor Stewart believes that you should head out at once to the ruins.

He estimates the ruins are roughly one hundred miles to the west and that the journey should take five or six days by skiff, twice if they attempt to journey on foot through the thick swamp. You discover that you have 2 options to head to the ruins via boat.

The first is to buy boats from local fishermen for the trip. Unfortunately, the only boats available are small canoes, which can only hold up to three Medium creatures wearing normal gear or two wearing heavy gear. A canoe sells for about 80 gp and moves about 1-½ miles per hour.
The second option is to hire a local to ferry the PCs up the river to the ruins and back. Once it is known where they intend to go, they find only one fisherman—Whailan, the boatman—who is willing to travel into the swamp. Whailan owns a large canoe capable of transporting up to nine characters wearing normal equipment, or six characters with heavy gear. Whailan doesn’t work cheaply.

Professor Stewart believes that , as you are the experts, it's up to you to determine the best way to get there and back.
    OOC
The best option is by boat as it will save you a significant amount of time and hassle.

Re: A Long way to Lonely Shores

Jack: "80 gold pieces for a canoe?  Well, if we need to,  I suppose we can sell the pearls.  Or we could find out how much Whailan charges."

OOCWhat we need also depends on how many characters are still in the game. It has been quite a while since I saw anybody else here.

Also, if I'm going to be playing Breslan as well, how do I get access to his character sheet? Should I try to find it in the vault and make a copy?

Re: A Long way to Lonely Shores

OOCThere are 4 characters left in the game. I think.
    Your characters:
    Brelsan : http://dndorks.com/characters/viewcharacter365.aspx
    Jack: http://dndorks.com/characters/viewcharacter369.aspx

    and Vaashin's two characters
    Eldan: http://dndorks.com/characters/viewcharacter370.aspx
    Romlu : http://dndorks.com/characters/viewcharacter377.aspx

as long as Vaashan is still around.

Whailan says"I be chargin ya 10 gold a day, and where's youse be wanting ta go should be about 5 days each way."Jack and Whailan start haggling a little and Whailan says"Well I do believe I can be doing it for ya for 7 gold a day, all up front as I don't want ta be collecting from ya corpses. Youse pay fa yar own food. I's can't be fairer than that."
