    Setting up a 4e game

Hey, I'm setting up a 4e PBF (PBP) to kick the tires so to speak. I've got Keep on the Shadowfell and the example dungeon in the back of the DMG as published 4e adventeres or I could adapt one of the many old edtion ones I have. Alternivly I've got a gladiator setting I've been thinking of running for a while, and some ideas of a 4e to SF conversion if anyone is interested.

Edit: Heck, if people prefer I could even run this on IRC or OpenRPG or somesuch.

Edit: PBF means play-by-forum (also known as Play-By-Post). This means I don't have to try and set up a time for everyone to be online at the same time. If peopel prefer we can change to IRC or OpenRPG or such.

Edit: Someone just showed me Maptools so thats now an option.

    Hi,

I would be interested in playing. What kind of further information can you give about the 4e game or will it come available when it does?

Re: Setting up a 4e game

Well, I was thinking of running either Keep on the Shadowfell or the sample adventure from the DMG. If everyones read both of those then I'll go through my old adventure archive and convert something. Furthermore I was thinking of using the online adaption to put KotS into Ebberon, but that was just an idea I've been kicking around.

As of now I'm using one house rule which is we won't be using the new alignment system, since I'm sick of alinemnt debates and there are so few game effects I figure I can convert them on the fly. Instead we will be using a form of the allegiances system from d20 modern (heavily modified, included at the end of this post)
Other then that I'm planing on using the 4e rules as written, with 100gp/character and 22 points buy as detailed in the PHB. (As 3.X point buy but you start with 8/10/10/10/10/10)
I'll be using the 4e books, but anyone who only has KotS can use those rules and we'll make any necessary adjustments as we go. I can provide a pregen for anyone who doesn't have any rules, or help you through rollup over IRC/MSN/Google talk.
    Details of Canageeks Allegiances system:

I'll lay out that system now: Everyone picks at least one guiding principle to which they owe alligence. Example: Justice, Law, Good, the teachings of Pelor, the Queen, Self, Money, Pleasure, Power. You can pick more then one (and most people do). You cannot pick mutually elusive allegiances (ie Good and Evil, the teachings of Bane and Pelor).
You then put your allegiances in order form most influence over you to least influence. Example: If a character has 1: Justice, 2: Law he will first do what is the just thing in his opinion, then the lawful thing. Note this is not a hard and fast rule, but an RP guideline.
Clerics & Paladins must have allegiances to the god they worship, as well as anyone with a cleric or paladin paragon path.
Allegiance can be added/removed at any extended rest since they represent your characters beliefs which can change over time.

Re: Setting up a 4e game

Does this mean I have two players? Are both of you ok with playing by post?

That gives us a wizard, what would you like to play Blue?

Well, in the podcast they are playing with 3 people, so I think I'll start once I get a 3rd person,  but leave it open for new people to join.

Re: Setting up a 4e game

I'd be willing to play.  I'll start working up a character sheet.  I havn't decided what I'll be just yet but if we've already got a fighter and a wizard then I won't be either of those.

Ok, I've created both an Elven Ranger and a Halfling Rogue.

I'll use one for this pbp game and another for a virtual tabletop one that I've signed up for.

Re: Setting up a 4e game

Cool, we now have sufficient players for a pbp game. I'd ask everyone get SOMETHING for an avatar so I can tell who is talking at a glance. Sorry to those that where hoping for OpenRPG, I prefer not to have to log in at a set time each day. I'll start scanning maps and such tommorow and providing rules to those that need them.

I see we already have a fighter, if we could get at least one cleric or warlord I'd be most happy.

Edit: note I'm still accepting new players as I like to start off with a good # as some always leave.

Re: Setting up a 4e game

Ok, I've made a quikstart rules pdf if anyone doesn't have the 4e books. Let me know if you want a copy, as well as how I should send it too you. The Pregen characters for Keep on the Shandowfell are avaiilbe from WoTC here. I'd recommend that anyone who doesn't have the rules pick one of those, however if you really hate using pregens I can help you roll up over IRC or some IM client.

I'd like to confirm that we will be playing H1: Keep on the Shadowfell, anyone who's already played/read it let me know and I can use another adventure.

Also whats everyones play style? Any heavy RPs here? or should I just get to the killing? I can adapt, just let me know what you expect. I'll default to a mix, though this is a combat heavy adventure.

Edit: I don't really char about how you do your charcacter sheet so long as I can have a copy. If your using a pregen just tell me which one. You can either type out your character with DnDorks character function (they don't have 4e characters yet so you'd have to use text), mythweavers or a similar site or even just emailing me a pdf or scan (I recommend cutepdf or similar to make a copy to email me if your having trouble saving it). My email is Canageek |at| gmail |.| |com|.

Re: Setting up a 4e game

Well I STRONGLY suggest having a cleric or warlord in the party, but just let me know which pregen you want.

Re: Setting up a 4e game

Ok, I also never got a response on if Ebberon is an ok setting for the game or if you all would prefer the 'default' 4e world?

My plan for maps is currently to set them up in my basement (where they won't be disturbed) and place minis on them the take pictures and post them via flickr. Is that ok with everyone? My other idea is if theres someone else willing to put in the time I could email them a pic of the blank map and they could place tockens or whatever on with Gimp, photoshop, maptools whatever, but that will take a bit much time for me.

I think I'll have the pregen cleric. And I support the idea of setting up the miniatures in your basement and showing us pictures.
