    Re: Inconvenient Death

    OOCWelcome back, Armydeone!

Well, Hal the construction worker brings your total dice up to 4.  You still need 4 (or more) successes.  Hal's "Baseball" skill almost applies, so he gets 1/2 his skill, for one automatic success.  (Sorry, Old Grump, the "pick-axe" idea is good, but doesn't quite apply.)  Armydeone, do you want to "use up" one of your traits (like "Strong") to add an extra die?

Old Grump, don't worry about the dice, this game's weird enough that it's probably best if I keep track of it.  That said, dice dropdowns (and the red-die dice pop-up) are pretty handy if you're playing some other game.

Alex runs with all of his might around the rear of the garage across the street, the zombies hot on his heels.  Oil drums and dumpsters and chain-link flash by him as he runs for his life through the darkness.

Meanwhile, Hal and Abe engage a smaller pack of the undead with only mop- and broom-handles to keep the abominations' gnashing teeth from their flesh.

Alone in the truck, Mary suddenly becomes lucid and begins to fumble with panic-stricken fingers at the latch.

    Re: Inconvenient Death

A little winded from the screaming but also settled down because of the physical activity.  I settle down just a little and adjust my strategy from pounding the shoulders of the monsters with the block of the push broom and start pushing it at the feet to see if I can get them off their feet.  A push and retreat, lunge, push and retreat.  As I try to lure the zombies from the wreck I have a fleeting thought of my last normal day sorting phalanges bones in the archaeology lab.  Then the notice the lab was closing, my girl gone, my apartment gone and now this, what is this?

I might be grumpy but I am pretty, whatcha gonna do about it?

I'm going to use my knowledge of building layouts to help me find a side entrance of fire escape or something.

    Re: Inconvenient Death

OOCDon't worry about the dice, Armydeone.  I'll roll them when the time is right.

So, you've got 5 dice and 3 automatic odds, now.  I'll roll the automatic dice to see if you get any 1s.

Crap!  That's impressive!  Eight odds total.  That's "Yes, and..."

As the zombies close on Alex, he runs around the corner looking for the fire-escape that he knew would be there.  With a desperate leap, he pulls himself scrambling up the ladder and onto the roof.  He doesn't know if they can climb ladders, but it's slowed them down at least since he doesn't see them coming over the wall just yet.

Down in the street, Hal smashes yet another zombie over the head with his handle, sending it to whatever rest these things get.  Not far away, Abe manages a nearly comic display of zombie tripping, keeping the hungry dead from feasting on his brains.  Mary finally finds herself outside of the truck, but seems to be too frightened to run past the sparking power lines to the relative safety of the Quick-Stop.  In the light from the power lines, Hal, Abe and Alex can see her hesitation...

    Re: Inconvenient Death

Lunge, push, retreat, I am developing a rythym that hopefully is keeping them off balance.  It seems as if I have been doing this for hours but it can't have been more than a minute and I take the chance of glancing over to the car during a retreat move to see if our ruse is working and the folks trapped are making use of the space and time we gave them to make their escape.

    Re: Inconvenient Death

Hal notices Abe's fatigue and points him to Mary. "Go and get her before she gets us killed!" He gives him a nudge in her direction and brandishes the mop again.

    Re: Inconvenient Death

I'm going to sttagger to the edge of the roof, yell to Mary to get inside and the collapse to the roof, back spasaming from climbing the ladder.

    Abe

Dodging around the zombies I make it to the power lines and using the block of the push broom I hook and raise the power lines up into the air.

"Quick, go get them just don't touch me or the wires"

I gasp for air, this hero stuff isn't exactly part of my background, digging artifacts out of hard ground with a garden trowel is more my speed.

I might be grumpy but I am pretty, whatcha gonna do about it?

    Re: Inconvenient Death

The shouting brings Mary to her senses.  She quickly reaches back into the truck and grabs her backpack, and runs for the Quick-Stop's front door.  A zombie notices her finally, and races to intercept her.

OOC to NovaAre you just going to stay on that roof, or did you want to try to get back to the convenience store?

    Abe

showing my teeth in a grim parody of a grin I wait till the zombie is close.  Just as he gets within brooms length I drop the broom in his direction and try a little experiment.  This zombie gets a 25,000 volt lunch as I turn away and follow the woman back to the store trailing my broom behind me.

I'm going to spend 5 or so minutes lying there in a haze of pain then look for a way back to the store.

    Re: Inconvenient Death

Abe thrusts the cable into the zombie, who jerks violently at the crackling electricity courses through him, leaving a smoking ruin and the smell of charred flesh in the night.  Meanwhile, the people in the store usher in Mary, who breaks down, sobbing, into their arms.  She is followed shortly by Abe and Hal, who slam the gate shut in time for it to be mobbed by maddened undead!  There's comotion and crying and confusion, but things eventually calm down long enough for people to realize that Alex hasn't come back...

OOC to NovaNova, do you, as a player, want Alex to be trapped outside or not?  It's up to you.

    Abe

Still adrenaline charged but weary to the bone, the smell of burning zombie and the crackling sound which just seems to go on and on I feel the need to be elsewhere, to be doing something else anyplace else.  Upon noticine we are missing Alex who had taken the inititative I feel utterly sick to my stomach.  All I can come up with is a sick joke because my mouth seems to have a need to say something.

"D-D-D-D Do you suppose Alex we-went out for chinese?"

I might be grumpy but I am pretty, whatcha gonna do about it?

    Re: Inconvenient Death

    Hal chuckles at the joke.
    "I hope not."
Hal bolts for the zombie going after Mary. If a zombie gets too close, he swipes the handle at them to keep its extremity clear from his path.
    "Lady, WATCH OUT!"
