Uh, why is she wearing lipstick?

She's wearing lipstick because this is their imaginings of her (she hasn't yet stepped into the light).

Poor Ethan, Little did he know that Melissa would become one of his greatest obstacles in destroying the game... (The bane of the MUNCHKING, the Dedicated Roleplayer).

I dunno, I think the bane of Ethan's ruining the game is just general incompitency. I mean... hes having... "fun". *shiver.*

I move for a vote of no confidence and I know a few people from my area that I would like to nominate to the position soon to be vacant, none of them as cool as Ethan, mind you.

Excellent job on Melissa's eyes there. Very, very pretty eyes. The lipstick looks somehow funky, but lipstick in general is an anomaly for me. And I agree with TinSoldier, "Feynman's ghost!" is another awesome phrase in such a long series of awesome phrases that I'll have to start listing them in a notebook if I want to remember to use them.

What's up with mel's mouth?  It looks like she's smiling, but her toung is there too.  Maybe make it black?  It just doesn't look good surrounded by lipstick.

It's the "White Mouth Phenomenon" debated since the beginning of time... or at least about halfway through D&Dorks.

And, of course, nobody notices the puppy dog eyes. Although, I do admit the White Mouth Phenomenon is a bit disturbing. Although the Black Mouth Phenomenon is even more disturbing.

Melissa is in a thought bubble, where as the real melissa is just a silhouette...

Also, Pegasos989, which Draconian would you suggest for a fighter? I'm thinking of making a Draconian Fighter for a character that I would always have in store for any DnD campaign that I can sneak it in.

wow, the white mouth phenomenon really stands out here. i cant help but hear harps playing in the b/g when i look at her.

i love how ethan thinks he can manipulate her.. also love his teeth..

I find it interesting in the top panel it's a look of awe and the bottom features a sly smile from the two more "socially adept" members.

Also the fact they all imagine her looking exactly the same way raises interesting questions that may be disregarded because they aren't important.

And yes, the eyes are purdy. Actually, I just realized this is a good look at almost everyone's facial features. I never realized DM's nose was that long. Ethan, of course, steals the show with pointy ears (or maybe his hair makes them look that way...) and teeth.

I'm surprised they didn't imagine her with blond hair, unless they actually see her, in which case we're being gypped by the Artmonkeys, as well as RichardM, since he no doubt orchestrated this. Which leads to another question. Why does she have her hair in a ponytail and wear lipstick in this session, and not all the others?

Also, in addition to the expression similarity  between the top two characters and then the bottom two characters, the two characters on the left (yes, I know their names but I'm lazy) seem to be sporting similar colors (yellow and two different shades of blue) while the two on the right dress a bit darker.

It's probably coincidence and not an intended artistic pattern, but I needed to write something.

Actually, the collar of Mike's jersy is, I think, Lime Green. Also, I WANT ANSWERS, DARN IT! WHY DO YOU TAUNT ME WITH POSSIBLE PARADOXES!? (takes a few, deep calming breaths, and then, in a calmer, more controlled voice says) And if I don't get at least the answer "All will be revealed in the next Retro-Wednesday update", I won't give the artmonkeys any bananas.

Something I noticed. The original name for this comic was CR 14 female. I guess Richard thought A Girl was better than that, although I disagree. Not that my opinion counts much, seeing as how I'm still just a lowly member. And all I have as far as characters go is a bunch of ideas, none of which I'll be able to TRUELY put onto paper until I get a Players Handbook and a DM's guide, preferably along with the Monster manual. All I have is the Dragon Lance Campaign setting and a map book, with (WOOHOO!) 3D maps in it. I don't have ANY of the core rulebooks, and would desperately like to get my hands on them. Does your Amazon.Com shop have the core rulebooks at a cheap price?

The collar of mikes jersey is goldish.

AND she's a silhouette because this is supposed to be a comic BEFORE you read the current strips not after so people don't necessarily know what she actually looks like.

AND AND She always has a braid.  THere hasn't been a comic (where they're gaming) that she doesn't have one.

I think they all see her; the silhouette is for the audience. As each player sees Melissa, his imagination fills in certain details about her such as her eyes and the lips looking "better" than IRL and of course the little floaty heart thingies...

I still think the 'white-mouth' issue might look better if the mouth were a darker variant of the tongue colour, with a sliver of white in some instances to show teeth.

But, white-mouth is better than none at all.


I just noticed she's got notes around her first comment...perhaps she's part Siren.

A pink mouth might be a little creepy.  I think the only reason it looks weird on fantasy mel is because she has a very wide mouth.  If it were made thinner or more to the left of the panel, it would probably be easier to see the whole mouth at once and not think of the left area as "teeth" and then seeing the right, and seeing it as "Tongue". 

I like the "a shade or two lighter or darker than the tongue" idea. How come no one (including me) thought of that last time this came up?

The Dark Mouth Phenomenon was scary, the White Mouth Phenomenon is funny in most cases (Hilarious in some, like with Mel in this one) and the Pink Mouth Phenomenon would just be downright creepy. I prefer to stick with the devil I know than the one I don't.

I just noticed something. For some reason, Mel looks REALLY weird wearing lipstick. I guess it's because I'm just not used to her wearing it. Unless I'm mistaken, I don't think she's ever worn lipstick.

Well, this was one of the first D&Dorks comic I read, and Mel in lipstick looked really weird to me too, even though I had never seen her before.

actually, she isn't wearing makeup, if you notice in the next comic, it shows what shes "really" looking like, they just imagined it
