10/27/2008 - When the DM has gotten just "too" attached to his NPC

I don't know if it's just me. I see the page of the comic, i see the title and everything else...but I don't see the actual comic panel. Help?

This was pretty strange, not sure what happened, but the comic admin saved a relative path with the asp.net ~ in the front.  I'll take a look at it though to make sure it doesn't happen again in the future.  thanks!

Sorry for the blank Comment.     I was gonna say, its almost as bad when the DM manages to put the player in a situation where they have nothing to loose, and then because of the creativity born of that, allows the player to intimidate a npc into getting more powerfull gear than they could possibly have afforded....  

Me and a buddy joined a campaign a while back (where Klintic the kobold warrior was born)  He was playing a sorcerer, which due to dm bungling, had a low low charisma score, and almost as bad a wisdom and intellect... so basically, a retarded sorcerer.     However, he had such a high skill (again due to dm bungling and pre-game single rp session to determine base skill bonuses) in deception, and lying, that he could bluff his way out of any situation.... he wound up bluffing his graduation with top honors from the sorcerers academy....

Anyway...  He winds up cursed by the god of death, that he has to work for the guy, or he'll slowly turn into a wraith (npc).  My buddy didn't like that, as the situation was forced on him.  Literally, we went to rest and he was visited, and there was no way around it, the dm just -did- it.    Meanwhile, we've been fighting zombies with my warrior getting his ass handed to him, because all he has for armor, is a skillet shield, a cookpot helm, and his loincloth.   He's got a magic sword he stole from the wizzard who 'created' him, and thats it.   

To cut this -long- comment short (I apologize for being wordy) My buddy wound up face to face with a 'demon door' for lack of better term, and bluffing it to give him a 'never fail spellbook' and me a set of +2 masterwork Plate-Mail of Undead Slaying.    Why did the dm let him get away with this?   We'll never know.

The third time this happened with our DM I kill the NPC in his sleep when he wasn't need and took his stuff. The DM was pissed, but didn't stop me and the others didn't really care. Later the DM got me killed by a trap in revenge. I wonder what a character would do to keep a NPC with them?

I might try, if it wasn't named John. The more extreme roleplayers might employ making themselves cry...I mean really freakin' extreme...
I sorta care about NPCs, I guess, but I wouldn't actually try to keep one unless it was a kobold. I like kobolds. :3
