A cunning and inquisitive druid

Jack's inquisitive nature fills him with an unending thirst for knowledge.

When he was young he started experimenting with alchemy, inspired after watching the village healer concoct a potion, but found alchemy to be too much effort compared for too little result.

Years later, he saw a traveling magician perform magic. He asked the magician to explain some of the basics to him, and the magician agreed. Jack was enticed by the power that such magic could bring him, but the lack of subtlety left him unimpressed. Magic uses intense energy to force the user's will onto reality.

Jack decided that there must be a more effective way; why force reality, when it can be guided to the correct conclusion with a bit of wisdom? He spent more and more time studying nature, its forces and creatures, learning how they work, what they do, and why. His obsession eventually left him spending all his time in the wilderness, preferring to make what he needs, rather than traveling all the way back to civilization.

Eventually his quest met with success, he learnt the magic of the druids. The druids discovered him and convinced him to join their secret society with promises of further knowledge, in exchange for his service in protecting nature. He survived their tests and took their oaths, and is now a full-fledged druid.
