The Gargantuan Blue Dragon is a figure for the Dungeons & Dragons Miniatures game. Unlike most of the other figures, this "mini" isn't randomly packaged because, well, it's gargantuan. It comes with a stat card, a pamphlet with special rules and a couple scenarios, and a nice big battle-map with a desert scene, perfect for a blue dragon encounter.
The dragon itself is well made and has a nice heft to it. The sculpting and details leave no doubt in your mind that this is a blue dragon and not just some other big lizard painted blue. The identifying central horn is distinctive as are the ear fans and the overall shape of the face. The base is a little less than four inches on each side, but the dragon itself, in a prowling stance, is about eight inches long and nearly seven inches high at the wingtips. It looks great towering over the other "normal-sized" minis. It is very impessive and definitely a good copy of the art in the Monster Manual.
The Gargantuan Blue Dragon, at 500 points, is a Lawful Evil army unto itself. As a matter of fact, it has six activations per round. Each activation it can perform one of eight possible maneuvers (Move, Bite, Move & Claw, Move and Claw, Breath, Move & Crush, Tail Slap and Tail Sweep), but only once each per round. For every 100 hit points the dragon loses, it loses one activation, so in a way, it's like having six 100 point units stacked on top of each other.
I haven't had a chance to try it in play at this point, but I imagine that the dragon, being possibly the sole unit in your warband or at least an attractive target, will draw alot of fire. He's tough, and can handle most of it, but he's likely to lose a couple of activations pretty quickly once the actual combat starts. That is, until the dragon starts mowing down great swaths of the other side's units.
The Gargantuan Blue Dragon looks like it would be alot of fun to use in a Dungeons & Dragons Miniatures game, if only for the look on the other player's face when you plop him down on the field. That is, of course, unless he retaliates with the Colossal Red Dragon, but that's another story altogether. :)
