Book by Richard Baker, Matthew Sernett, Frank Brunner

First Published: August 2006

Introduction:

The Tome of Battle is for martial characters what the Tome of magic was. However, where tome of magic dealt with multiple new systems, this book is dedicated entirely to one new system based off maneuvers. Maneuvers are not exactly like magic they allow your melee based character dole out some fantastic supernatural and extraordinary abilities.

Review:

Table of Contents:   This book has one. This is very important since the book does not feature an index.

Layout: One of the very first things I notice about this book is the standard layout. The book is made like you would expect from WOTC.  What really blew me away about this book were the visuals.

The first page of each chapter (like previous D&D books) has a fantastic piece of artwork that covers the top half of the page. The artwork tells the story of Reshar and how he founded the Sublime Way. The later chapters show important events in the history of the order. One thing I liked is how each piece of art at the beginning of each chapter was done by the same artist.

Each page features a parchment with a beige draconic symbol. The page borders look nice. When charts are used they feature alternate between the page backgrounds and blue which makes it extremely easy to read. I like the use of the blue fonts for subject headers.

Art: I really like each piece of art in this book. It is one the higher end of the artwork they produce. It has a nice consistency and really makes what the writers work come alive visually. The artwork really lends to the feel describe in the sidebar of introduction.

Aesthetics : 10/10.  The Art is fantastic in this book.  The layout is great. There should be more books like this
